Kobe Bryant says "Nothing else matters" - do you have that clarity for your business?

After game 1 of the 2010 NBA finals where the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Boston Celtics, Kobe Bryant was asked "what is your thought process as you try to win the championship."  He did not hesitate for a second with his answer - "nothing else matters."  A few seconds before that question he had stated that his focus was on defending and rebounding and that offense comes and goes.  Take a look:

I happened to watch this game live and was struck by Kobe's complete clarity and laser focus in this interview.  He knows exactly what he wants and the most important actions that he and his team have to take to achieve the goal.

Sports has this wonderful element - how you win is very clearly defined.  In basketball, you score more than the other team when time runs out and you win.  Win four games in the NBA finals and you are the World Champion and get to hoist the trophy in victory!

How is the win for your business defined?  In what time frame does that win have to occur?  What if you had only two or three key actions that drove your business and if you did those to the best of your ability you knew you could win?

To get that kind of clarity you have to really clear away the noise and distractions of the day-to-day and ensure that your actions are moving the needle on the two or three most important measures of your business.  Take a look at our 10 Keys to Business Success as a starting point.  If you want some help getting Kobe's kind of clarity, let me know.
